Bananaramas Cool Summer Treat

ADV93 Project 2 (by Jason Argao)
For this project, I had to create a packaging design for a certain type of product that is also referencing a certain musical artist. The prompts for both of these was given to me at random, and my assignment ended up being to make a dog kibble design with my artist being the 80s girl group, Bananarama.

For this project, this would be my first time using Adobe Substance 3D Stager, among all the other applications I'm used to using such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Getting started with this project was honestly the hardest part for me because I have never heard a single song from Bananarama ever. The research was a little difficult in the sense that I feel like I'm back in elementary school, doing a biography report, but after listening to a couple songs and observing the designs of their earliest album covers, as well as using a past example of this project to help guide me in the process, it led to how I wanted to approach the actual design of the project. The color palettes, the font styles, parallel to a couple of the albums is inspired by Bananarama's work when they were most popular.
Flat Designs
Using an AI-generated image of a dog wearing sunglasses, the vision with this design is to reference one of their most popular songs, except put a little twist into the words. If some people don't understood it at first, they might assume a "Cruel Summer Treat" won't be good for the dog versus what's on the contrary. Replacing that word with "Cool" which can help complement the image of the dog is what I believe ends up with an effective packaging design that I'd transfer over to Adobe Substance to make it all 3D.
Flat Design (Back Side) + Nutrition Label (on the Side)
Packaging Design (in 3D)
After trying to eyeball it so that all three designs remain consistent in terms of scaling the flat imagery into the 3D packaging, I'm overall satisfied with the final product(s) as a whole because it was pretty much exactly how I envisioned the packaging to look like when it was still just a flat design.

The only thing I would want to really change is to make the texture of the "BANANARAMA" text look more obvious, because from afar it looks like I did nothing to the text.

But besides that, the experience with Adobe Substance wasn't as hard nor intimidating as I was imagining before entering this stage into the project. For what it is worth I really am satisfied with what I created for a Bananarama themed dog kibble!
